Actor Shin Ha-kyun recently opened up about what led him to pursue acting.
On the 16th, a video titled “Our Ha-kyun Hyung is…” was uploaded to the YouTube channel ‘Yoo Yeon-seok’s Weekend Yeon-seok Drama’.
During the episode, Yoo Yeon-seok asked, “Around what age did you decide to become an actor?” Shin Ha-kyun revealed, “I think I had the feeling in my heart for a while, but I first spoke it out loud during my second year of high school.”
He recalled his high school days, saying, “Isn’t that just how high school is? I worried a lot about my future and wondered why I had to enter a university based on my scores and live a life studying in a department I didn’t even like.”

Shin Ha-kyun explained, “I asked myself, ‘What do I actually like?’ I’ve loved movies since I was a kid and absolutely loved going to the cinema. My heart would race from the moment I took the subway there. I thought to myself, ‘That’s it. My future is there.'”
Yoo Yeon-seok questioned if that felt too vague, asking, “Isn’t it a bit vague to suddenly say you’ll become an actor who appears in those movies?” To this, Shin Ha-kyun replied, “I didn’t specifically set my sights on being an actor; I just wanted to do work related to that field or study it. I thought it would be fun.”
Interestingly, Shin Ha-kyun passed his exams without ever attending an acting academy. “My first time acting was actually the practical exam. We didn’t have acting academies back then,” he shared. “I think there were many friends in high school drama clubs at the time. High school theater was very active, and many of the best students from all over the country applied.”
Yoo Yeon-seok was amazed, wondering, “You didn’t even prepare a free-acting piece and just did what was given, yet you still passed?”
