Girls’ Generation’s Sooyoung shared a touching story about her father’s blindness and expressed her deep gratitude toward her fellow members.
On the May 6 episode of tvN’s ‘You Quiz on the Block,’ the “Hyo-Ri-Soo” trio—Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Sooyoung—appeared as a rising comedy group and the “rivals to TaeTiSeo.”
During the show, Sooyoung moved viewers by discussing her father’s battle with Retinitis Pigmentosa and a special moment with Yuri. She revealed, “My father serves as the president of the Blindness Eradication Movement Headquarters,” adding that she used to volunteer and support the cause on her own whenever opportunities arose.
She shared that Yuri once asked, “Sooyoung, why didn’t you tell me your dad was doing such great work? You should have told me sooner!” Since then, the members have been consistently making donations, leading Sooyoung to feel as though they are sharing her family’s burdens.

With a heavy heart, Sooyoung confessed, “My father has a condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa, and after about 15 years, he has almost completely lost his sight.” She mentioned that he recently began new research on the disease and praised the unbreakable 20-year bond of Girls’ Generation, saying it felt wonderful to have people who understand and support her without her even having to ask.
Yuri added, “At some point, I felt that it was only natural to look after each other’s family and personal lives, not just work.” She shared that she had also received similar support from the members, noting that the strength she gained from their support made her feel that she could handle any difficulty.
