Singer Sung Si Kyung took a trip down memory lane, recalling his time on the variety show ‘Heavenly Match’ alongside Rain.
On the May 15th episode of KBS2TV’s ‘The Seasons – Sung Si Kyung’s Ear Boyfriend’, Rain joined as a guest for some amazing live performances and a candid chat with Sung Si Kyung.
Sung Si Kyung reminisced about their rookie days when they both appeared on ‘Heavenly Match’, hosted by Kang Ho Dong. “Do you remember? We had a competition where we had to do squats while holding female contestants,” he recalled, as a clip from the show played.
Rain looked back on the moment, admitting, “While doing that, I remember thinking, ‘What on earth am I doing at 2 AM?'” Seeing their exhausted expressions after a joint win, Sung Si Kyung joked that they had been “completely drained by Kang Ho Dong.”
Rain added, “Setting everything else aside, I just wondered, ‘Why is hyung working so hard?'” to which Sung Si Kyung replied, “I just wanted to win at least one thing against Rain. Those were the days of that kind of variety show!”
Sung Si Kyung shared another funny story: “I actually spoke my mind back then. It was around 3 AM, and when Ho Dong hyung asked how I was feeling, I told him, ‘I’m a singer, so I really don’t understand why I’m doing squats with a woman and rice on top.’ The atmosphere wasn’t exactly welcoming to that kind of honesty, but I said it anyway.”
Rain recalled, “That’s right. On that program, if you became a ‘King-ka’ (most popular guy) or ‘Queen-ka’, you could get out. You escaped because you became a King-ka.” Since Rain didn’t get the title, Sung Si Kyung delivered a hilarious “fact attack,” saying, “I’m here because I was a King-ka, but you married the most beautiful woman in Korea!” referring to Rain’s wife, actress Kim Tae Hee. He added with a bittersweet laugh, “It’s not like I can just give the King-ka title to someone else,” leaving everyone in stitches.
