On May 13th, Ham Eun-jung’s YouTube channel dropped a fun new video titled ‘5th Generation Idol Challenge.’ In the clip, Ham Eun-jung got a full makeover in the trendy 5th generation idol style that’s currently dominating the K-pop scene. She quickly noticed a huge difference from the 2nd generation era when she was actively promoting!
Before her big transformation, Ham Eun-jung candidly shared her thoughts, saying, “There are so many styles, from sparkling glossy looks to baked-on finishes and clear expressions.” She then playfully admitted, “I’m definitely more suited for 2nd generation makeup!”
But as the makeover continued, a look of delightful bewilderment started to spread across her face! Ham Eun-jung couldn’t help but feel a little unfamiliar with the boldly emphasized aegyo-sal (under-eye fat) and blush that extended all the way to the tip of her nose, both popular current trends. She mused, “I’m not sure if this is pretty yet,” and confessed, “I guess I’ve really drifted far from trends.” The makeup artist, observing her reactions, playfully poked fun, asking, “Isn’t your expression a bit too… unhappy?” which instantly sent the whole set into fits of laughter!
Ham Eun-jung was particularly vocal about the artificially emphasized under-eye line, strongly declaring, “I don’t like it!” She repeatedly expressed her discomfort, explaining, “It looks pretty from afar, but up close, the lines are too distinct.” Talk about relatable!
When the makeup artist explained, “All idols do this style, but actors tend to dislike it,” Ham Eun-jung hilariously retorted, “Well, I’m both an idol and an actress, so I guess I’ve fully become an actress! I must have caught the ‘actor’s disease’!” Her witty remark brought huge laughs to everyone on set and watching the video.
