In the TVING original ‘Become a Legendary Cooking Soldier’, Kim Sang-hyun took on the voice acting role of the ‘Guardian’, a system that appears only before Private Kang Seong-jae.
The Guardian is a special entity that guides the quests, missions, and rewards Kang Seong-jae must complete to become a legendary cooking soldier. This character drives the unique charm of the series by introducing unpredictable variables into military life.
In episodes 1 and 2, the Guardian left a strong impression with the line, “Warrior, the chef’s path tutorial has begun.” Kim Sang-hyun’s soft yet powerful husky voice, paired with Park Jihoon’s reactions, perfectly captures the feeling of playing a video game.
The production team revealed, “From before filming, we put a lot of effort into finding a voice that would allow not only Park Jihoon but also the viewers to be deeply immersed in the drama,” adding that “Voice actor Kim Sang-hyun’s participation was a hidden card we saved until the very end.”
They further explained, “We kept it a secret from the actors until just before the script reading began. During filming, to help actor Park Jihoon naturally immerse himself in the character of Kang Seong-jae, we played the pre-recorded audio by voice actor Kim Sang-hyun in real-time on set.”
The Guardian is set to bring both tension and laughter to Kang Seong-jae’s military life. Fans are looking forward to the performance of Kim Sang-hyun’s Guardian, which blends a system-like way of speaking with unexpected wit.
