“K-Grandfather” Kim Jaejoong got real about everything from his experience with sperm freezing to his thoughts on having children.
In the KBS2 ‘Fun-staurant’ episode aired on the 15th, Kim Jaejoong gathered Choi Jinhyuk, Yoon Shi-yoon, and Yoo Sunho at his home for a candid chat about marriage.
Kim Jaejoong previously made headlines as the “first idol grandfather” after sharing the news of his niece’s pregnancy last year. It all started when his second older sister told him, “You’ve become a grandfather,” as his niece’s couple was expecting.
Since then, the baby boy was born, and Kim Jaejoong showed his love for his first grandchild, who is now over 100 days old. “To my parents, it’s a great-grandchild,” he laughed, adding, “It feels really strange to be a grandfather.” He also surprised everyone by revealing that his family now consists of a whopping 34 members, noting that the family is likely to keep growing.
The conversation naturally shifted toward marriage and children. Kim Jaejoong surprised everyone by confessing, “I do have thoughts about marriage,” and revealing, “I’ve actually tried sperm freezing before.” He explained that he wanted to be prepared for the sake of having a healthy child.
Recalling the experience, Kim Jaejoong shared, “As soon as I met the doctor for the first consultation, he told me to take off my pants.” He noted that the doctor first checked if everything looked okay on the outside. He then joked about entering the “room of truth” for the actual procedure, which left him feeling quite embarrassed. He further explained that there is a “golden time” for sperm collection, as it’s a problem if it’s too early or too late, adding, “Even that was a test. I was embarrassed twice.”
Yoo Sunho comforted him, saying, “It’s nothing to be embarrassed about. Isn’t it for a healthy child?” However, Kim Jaejoong shared some realistic concerns, noting that frozen sperm isn’t stored as long as he expected. “It’s discarded after about 3 to 5 years. I wondered, ‘Is it really that short?'” He revealed that the sample he froze has already been discarded because the period expired, adding that he only did it once and doesn’t plan to do it again.
At the end of the broadcast, Kim Jaejoong left a realistic tip for others, especially fellow celebrities considering the process, which brought a laugh to the viewers.
