Lee Jun-young Opens Up About His U-KISS Days and the Pain of Harsh Criticism After Turning to Acting

On the 20th, Lee Jun-young, the lead of the upcoming JTBC Saturday-Sunday drama ‘New Employee Chairman Kang’ (premiering on the 30th), appeared on Ha Ji-young’s YouTube channel.

In the video, Lee Jun-young looked back on his rookie days. Recalling his debut with the group ‘U-KISS’ in 2014, he confessed, “It was so different from the world I imagined. I thought all my worries would be gone once I debuted, but that wasn’t the case. I struggled a lot back then.”

To this, Ha Ji-young agreed, saying, “The word ‘struggled’ is accurate. The idea of grinding through the industry, like in the military, really resonates.”

Having started with minor roles after auditioning more than 100 times, he mentioned his difficult times, saying, “I felt like a loser if I quit.”

Lee Jun-young also brought laughter when talking about Park Ji-hoon, whom he met through the Netflix series ‘Weak Hero Class 2’. He said, “Ji-hoon is so pretty. I saw his movie and he was really good. His numbers are high and he has great momentum. I contacted him just before he hit 10 million. To be considerate, I congratulated him when he was around 9 million.”

He added, “At that time, there weren’t many actors who started as idols. I had a lot of respect for Im Si-wan and Do Kyung-soo.”
