AKMU’s Lee Suhyun Opens Up About Overcoming a Dark Slump: “Singing Is as Precious as Life”

AKMU’s Lee Suhyun shared the pure joy of returning to the stage after overcoming a long and difficult slump.

AKMU appeared as guests on the May 13 episode of EBS ‘Space Gonggam’.

The duo released their 4th full album ‘개화’ on April 7. This album is especially meaningful as it represents Lee Suhyun’s journey of overcoming a long period of lethargy, combined with the patience of her brother, Lee Chanhyuk, who stayed by her side.

During the broadcast, Lee Suhyun confessed, “There is one thing I love most in this world, and that is singing. I feel happy just by singing on stage. When you all watch, listen, and have happy expressions on your faces, I feel like I could live my entire life on those memories.”

Recalling her slump, Lee Suhyun emphasized, “When I wondered ‘What could possibly make me get back up?’, I realized that the only thing I couldn’t let go of was singing. It is as precious to me as my own life. Nothing else even comes close. It would be terrifying if I ever reached a point where I couldn’t sing. Singing is overwhelmingly joyful.”

She added, “I want to show everyone on stage just how happily my brother and I are living.”

Previously, in April, Lee Suhyun opened up on tvN’s ‘You Quiz on the Block’ about the severe slump she experienced following Lee Chanhyuk’s military enlistment.

She revealed that she spent two years shut in her room, struggling with lethargy and the feeling that she couldn’t fill the void left by her brother. It was a period so difficult that she almost gave up on her future, but Lee Chanhyuk became the catalyst for her recovery by reaching out and telling her that “saying it’s okay is more dangerous.” Lee Chanhyuk suggested they live together to help her correct her daily habits and manage her exercise and diet. Lee Suhyun shared that she can smile on stage once again thanks to her brother’s sincere efforts, calling him “my savior.”
