Bae Gi-sung has shared an update on his sudden hearing loss and announced his decision to try IVF.
On the May 11 episode of tvN STORY’s “What’s the Point of Leaving it Behind?”, Bae Gi-sung joined his close friend Yoon Jung-soo to talk about his health.
When Yoon Jung-soo asked if his ear was feeling better, Bae Gi-sung revealed that his hearing has not returned for two months now.
He explained that he is suffering from sudden sensorineural hearing loss in his right ear.
Bae Gi-sung shared that the hearing loss occurred while he was trying for a natural pregnancy. “IVF is hard on my wife, so I told her I would put my heart and soul into trying for a natural pregnancy one last time,” he recalled. “Suddenly, I started hearing tinnitus, and then the sound just vanished.”
He added that he plans to start IVF as soon as his health recovers.
Jokingly, Bae Gi-sung said, “I can’t do natural pregnancy anymore. I only have one ear left!”
He also shared a touching story about how he avoided talking about having children to be considerate of his wife’s potential struggle with IVF. However, his wife felt hurt, asking, “Don’t you want to have a child?”
Yoon Jung-soo also revealed that he and his wife, Won Jin-seo, are already undergoing IVF.
Yoon shared the difficulties his wife faces, saying, “The person with me is struggling so much with hormones. There’s nothing I can do but stay by her side. It’s heartbreaking. Because of the hormonal changes after IVF, she’s become much more emotional and cries more, even though she wasn’t usually like that.”
Bae Gi-sung added, “Hormonal changes cause the face and body to swell. That’s the hardest part for women.”
Showing his affection for Won Jin-seo, Yoon Jung-soo said, “When IVF doesn’t work, she tells me she’s sorry, but I feel even more sorry for her.”
