“Broadcasting Folks Keep Talking Nonsense!” Jang Dong-min Gets Spicy Over Ratings Goals at MBC’s ‘Choi Woo Su San’ Press Event

Jang Dong-min brought the laughs at the ‘Choi Woo Su San’ production presentation while discussing target ratings and the possibility of the show becoming a regular series.

The production presentation for ‘Choi Woo Su San’ took place on the afternoon of the 28th of last month at the MBC Golden Mouse Hall in Sangam, Mapo-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by Yoo Se-yoon, Jang Dong-min, Heo Kyung-hwan, Boom, Yang Se-hyung, and PD Kim Myung-yeop.

‘Choi Woo Su San’ is MBC’s first-ever mountain variety show, where cast members compete for the summit by completing missions in the mountains to win acorns. The show is drawing attention for its veteran comedy lineup, featuring ‘2025 MBC Entertainment Awards’ Male Top Excellence Award winner Yoo Se-yoon and the group known as the “Losers,” consisting of Jang Dong-min, Boom, Yang Se-hyung, and Heo Kyung-hwan.

The program follows ‘Manito Club,’ which ended last month with a low of 0.9% in viewership. When asked about the target ratings, PD Kim Myung-yeop stated, “Ratings fluctuate based on the season and competing programs. Recently, the 2049 ratings for ‘Running Man’ and ‘2 Days & 1 Night’ have been around 2%. Our goal is to exceed that, as we believe surpassing that figure is key to ‘Choi Woo Su San’ securing a regular time slot.”

Hearing this, Yang Se-hyung asked, “Our program is a 5-episode pilot. If we exceed 2% even once out of those five times, does that mean we get a regular slot?” Jang Dong-min added a joke, saying, “Broadcasting folks keep talking nonsense, so we need to make this clear right here.”

Boom sparked laughter by mentioning a “Plan B.” He said, “If ‘Choi Woo Su San’ comes in lower than the figures we want, we’ll change from ‘Choi Woo Su San’ (mountain) to ‘Choi Woo Su San’ (fisheries) and head to the sea. I’m ready to go the fisheries route. I’ll activate Plan B.”

‘Choi Woo Su San’ premieres on MBC on May 3 at 6 PM.
