Broadcaster Choi Hwa-jung revealed her close friendship with the group Bom Yeoreum Gaeul Gyeoul on her show “Hello, I am Choi Hwa-jung.”
On May 14, a video titled “The more you chew, the more savory! A hidden frozen pork belly gem in Choi Hwa-jung’s neighborhood (+ A tour of Seongsu-dong)” was released on Choi Hwa-jung’s YouTube channel. Choi Hwa-jung originally planned to enjoy coffee and egg tarts near Seoul Forest, but due to the Children’s Day crowds, she changed course and headed to Ttukdo Youth Market instead.
Visiting a frozen pork belly restaurant for her second stop, Choi Hwa-jung chatted with the cool owner about the charm of the dish. While the trend for frozen pork belly really took off in the 2000s, the owner mentioned, “When I was twenty,” adding, “That was 2005,” which left Choi Hwa-jung flustered since being twenty for her was back in 1980.
Choi Hwa-jung surprised everyone by sharing her own history with the food, saying, “Bom Yeoreum Gaeul Gyeoul was the first to take me to a frozen pork belly place. It was truly a star-quality experience. Since then, I’ve been seeking out frozen pork belly up to this age.”
