Director Park Chan-wook's 'I Can't Help It' Wins Best Film at the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards!

The Best Film award at the Baeksang Arts Awards went to ‘I Can’t Help It’.

The 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards with Gucci took place on the 8th at COEX Hall D in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, hosted by Shin Dong-yup, Suzy, and Park Bo-gum.

Established in 1965 to promote the development of Korean popular culture and arts and to boost the morale of artists, the Baeksang Arts Awards celebrated its 62nd anniversary this year. Notably, to mark the 60th anniversary of Korean musicals, a new musical category was added, bringing together all areas of popular culture and arts alongside broadcasting, film, and theater, breaking boundaries between genres and evolving into a festival encompassing all fields of K-content.

The nominees for Best Film included ‘The Man Living with the King’, ‘I Can’t Help It’, ‘Master of the World’, ‘Good News’, and ‘3rd Grade 2nd Semester’. Amidst fierce competition, the honor went to ‘I Can’t Help It’, directed by Park Chan-wook.

Director Park Chan-wook said, “Looking at the results, I am confident that the judging was fair. The film ‘I Can’t Help It’ itself is a work full of jokes. I believe it’s necessary to constantly try to joke, make people around you laugh, and even make self-deprecating jokes when you’re angry or sad. That’s because it allows you to release the pressure of anger and sadness and find an exit.”

He added, “I am a director who didn’t win an award at the Venice Film Festival and didn’t make it to the Oscars, but please believe me since I am a director who won a Baeksang Arts Award.”
