MBC’s ‘Oh Eun-young Report – Marriage Hell’ is shedding light on a couple struggling with conflicting parenting styles following a tragic accident involving their first daughter.
In the episode airing May 11 at 10:20 PM, the couple shares their story of being unable to find common ground when it comes to raising their children.
The couple recalls an accident their first daughter experienced around 100 days after birth. The husband explains, “The baby was leaning against the sofa and suddenly flipped over and fell.” While she seemed fine at first, she suddenly lost consciousness a week later and was rushed to the emergency room. She was subsequently diagnosed with a disability involving right-side hemiplegia. Now 8 years old, she continues to undergo rehabilitation treatment.
The husband’s approach to discipline is a major point of conflict. He maintains a very firm attitude toward his daughter. During a meal, he is seen telling her sternly, “Lift your head.” Regarding this, the husband reveals his inner thoughts, saying, “I might be called a harsh father, but I want to make sure my daughter walks, even if I have to be strict.”
On the other hand, the wife explains that she has been deeply hurt by her husband’s rough tone and behavior. She expresses her wish that “my husband would speak more kindly to the children.” She notes that he often uses harsh expressions in front of the kids, but the husband counters that “I’m from Gyeongsang-do, so my way of speaking is naturally strong.”
The episode also features a dangerous parenting moment that leaves Dr. Oh Eun-young shocked. While watching the footage, Dr. Oh points out, “The first child already went through such a painful event, and yet this happens again.” She strongly warns the couple, stating, “It was pure luck today. This is something that must absolutely never happen again,” criticizing their parenting attitude.
