Comedian Jo Hye-ryun got real about the copyright earnings from her hit track ‘Anakkana’.
During her guest appearance on MBC Standard FM’s ‘Jung Sun-hee, Moon Chun-sik’s Now is Radio Era’ on May 11, Jo Hye-ryun charmed listeners with her signature cheerful wit.

Talking about ‘Anakkana’, she explained, “It was first released in 2005 by ‘Yeogeol Six’. At first, I didn’t know any better, but KBS didn’t approve it because the lyrics were considered vulgar and below standard.” Surprisingly, it took 20 years for ‘Anakkana’ to finally pass the review! She added, “It’s often sung at weddings these days. I think KBS finally gave the okay since so many different genres have emerged now,” noting that the song was finally recognized.
She also shared, “I feel a bit upset whenever I go to Park Myung-soo’s radio show.” She added that while singing a couple of lines live is fine, he teases her by singing songs like ‘Babo-ga Babo-ege’ and ‘Prince of the Sea’.

Jo Hye-ryun also mentioned the review for ‘Shonk Shonk Song’, released in 2010. The song is a comical version of ‘Nuit De Folie’ by the French male duo Debut De Soiree, who were huge in the 1990s, with lyrics written based on how the original sounded. She explained, “I heard that in France, it’s a song by a national singer. I even heard that local news introduced it, asking, ‘What is this music video?'”
When it comes to the money, she set the record straight: “People think I made a lot of money from ‘Anakkana’, but while Sony approved the review immediately, I don’t receive a single penny.” Jo Hye-ryun revealed, “Since they are foreign songs, the money goes to the original creators.” When Jung Sun-hee asked if the money goes to the original artists, Jo Hye-ryun beamed, “I’m just happy to record and stand on stage. I do it because I enjoy it.”

In 2023, Jo Hye-ryun’s ‘Anakkana’ saw a resurgence in popularity after she delivered an epic year-end performance at the ‘MBC Broadcasting and Entertainment Awards’. She is also known for lighting up the mood at friends’ weddings by singing her own hits, including ‘Anakkana’.
