Top girl groups NMIXX and LE SSERAFIM went head-to-head in a fierce yet hilarious “Girl Group Battle” on ‘Amazing Saturday’.
In the 417th episode of tvN’s variety show ‘Amazing Saturday’ aired on the 16th, NMIXX’s Haewon and Bae, who are making a comeback with ‘Heavy Serenade’, and LE SSERAFIM’s Chaewon and Kazuha, returning with the new song ‘Boom Pala’, appeared as special guests.
The guests’ incredible wit shone right from the opening. Haewon of NMIXX, already known online as a “born variety star,” joked about how her songs or materials had frequently appeared as problems on ‘Amazing Saturday’ in the past. She brought laughs from the start, slyly saying, “I wondered when they’d call me, and I’m so grateful they did right in time for my comeback.” Bae also couldn’t hide her excitement, letting out cheers the moment she grabbed the microphone.
The unique chemistry between Bae and Haewon especially caught the eye. Bae was completely immersed in the Romeo concept for the day. A behind-the-scenes story was revealed, making the cast burst into laughter, as Bae constantly teased Haewon, who was dressed as Juliet, from the makeup shop until just before filming, acting out a whole scenario.
The episode played out as an epic “Girl Group Battle,” with the cast splitting into “Mix Team” and “Raphim Team” for a full-on showdown. During the snack game “Six Hearts as One,” the LE SSERAFIM members hit an unexpected snag. When the mission song ‘Spring Day of My Life is Gone’ played, Chaewon and Kazuha looked puzzled, confessing, “This is the first time I’ve heard the title of this song today.” In fact, the song was a nostalgic masterpiece older than the two members themselves.
As the game progressed, the heat intensified for the battle over the assorted pancakes. The competition went down to the fourth round in a tight 2-2 tie, with members from both teams showing their competitive side to secure the delicious food. While the old Korean songs presented a high cultural barrier for Japanese member Kazuha, she showed her strength by focusing and dramatically guessing Tutu’s ‘One and a Half’, helping Raphim Team catch up in points.
However, NMIXX’s Haewon’s performance was on another level. She stunned everyone by instantly catching most of the correct answers even when the karaoke accompaniment played for only one second. Thanks to Haewon’s hard carry, Mix Team managed a dramatic comeback victory.
The battle between the two teams went as far as a 4-4 tie, leading to a tense overtime match, with the final victory going to Mix Team. After securing the precious win and tasting the assorted pancakes, Mix Team’s Young K was overcome with emotion and performed a satisfied “Nol-ttung Dance.” It was a moment that wiped away all the sorrow of being teased by members as the “game hole” in the past. During the tasting session, Bae provided huge laughs until the end with her bold and quirky food description, saying, “The tofu is like a baby’s bottom,” while diving into a storm of eating.
Meanwhile, following the mouth-watering assorted pancake battle, the show teased the next round’s main dish, the high-end Thai dish ‘Poo Pad Pong Curry’ filled with tender soft crab and plump shrimp, once again sparking the cast’s competitive spirit.
