Singer Lee Ji-hoon has officially risen as a next-generation emotional balladeer.
In a K-pop market dominated by idol music, Lee Ji-hoon is capturing listeners’ hearts with his clean emotions and deep resonance, marking his presence as a rising star in the ballad scene.
He first caught the public’s eye through SBS’s “Our Ballad,” Korea’s first ballad audition program that ended last December. He became a hot topic for his deep love for the late Kim Kwang-seok and eventually finished as the runner-up.
With his deep tone, solid vocal skills, and sincere performances, Lee Ji-hoon is building his own musical world as a vocalist who wins over audiences with nothing but his voice and emotion. This sincerity shines brightest in his new song “A Decent Person,” released on the 20th of last month.
Written, composed, and produced by Yoon Jong-shin, “A Decent Person” is an emotional ballad that offers comfort to various generations, from office workers finishing a busy day to middle-aged adults enduring life’s burdens and exhausted youth. Carrying the message “You are a decent enough person,” the song delivers a gentle resonance combined with Lee Ji-hoon’s clean vocals.
“A Decent Person” has continued to receive a steady response since its release. Rather than being a one-time hit, it is creating a quiet stir by expanding into various types of challenge content.
Lee Ji-hoon continues to deliver warm messages through various live contents, including his own “SM:ALL Live” and “Self Recording,” as well as YouTube’s “LionMusic” and Dingo Music’s “TEXTED.” His live performances, which focus on vocal delivery and emotion rather than flashy stage effects, are praised for highlighting his strengths and proving the power of music meant for listening.
Additionally, the “Ji-hoon’s Decent Hyungs” singing challenge featured an unexpected and entertaining lineup including Kang Ho-dong, Lee Soo-geun, Hwang Jae-gyun, Yang Se-chan, Jun Hyun-moo, Seo Jang-hoon, Kim Hee-chul, and Yoon Jong-shin. Other artists like Kim Yong-jun, Lee Seok-hoon, Hwang Ga-ram, and CRAVITY’s Woobin also joined the challenge, interpreting the song’s message in their own unique ways.
The sincerity of the project deepened further with the release of a sign language version. Lee Ji-hoon produced the sign language video and challenge to extend comfort to even more people, breaking language barriers and expanding the reach of empathy.
Even in a fast-paced music market, Lee Ji-hoon is carving his own path with heartfelt music and consistent messaging. Fans are eagerly anticipating what kind of music he will use to touch listeners’ hearts next, as he chooses lasting empathy and comfort over flashiness.
