“World Cup icon” Lee Kyung-kyu brought laughter by publicly dissing veteran commentators Kim Sung-joo and Bae Sung-jae from other broadcasting stations.
In the KBS2 variety show ‘Boss in the Mirror’ aired on the afternoon of the 17th, episodes featuring former baseball player Yang Joon-hyuk, ENT specialist Byeon Hyeong-kwon, and new North and Central America World Cup caster Jun Hyun-moo were revealed. Kim Tae-gyun appeared as a special MC.
Nam Hyun-jong, who joined the KBS broadcasting team for the ‘2026 North and Central America World Cup,’ began practicing with the help of senior announcers Lee Jae-hoo and Eom Ji-in.
Lee Jae-hoo praised him, saying, “Nam Hyun-jong is always stable and can handle any request.” However, the two seniors advised that he becomes like a parrot if he only sticks to prepared scripts. Eom Ji-in pointed out sharply, “There is something missing that would make viewers choose Nam Hyun-jong’s commentary over Bae Sung-jae’s. It’s not interesting,” noting a lack of recognition and entertainment value.
At that moment, Eom Ji-in called for help from the “Man of the World Cup” and “World Cup Icon” Lee Kyung-kyu to assist Nam Hyun-jong. Lee Kyung-kyu compared him to Kim Sung-joo and Bae Sung-jae, stating, “Announcer Nam Hyun-jong is like white wallpaper. Right now, anything you put on him stands out.”
Lee Kyung-kyu joked, “I came here to talk smack about others, so he just needs to avoid meeting them.” He added, “Among announcers, Kim Sung-joo is great. Lee Kyung-kyu further brought laughter by adding, “Bae Sung-jae has a lot of football knowledge. But first of all, Nam Hyun-jong is more handsome than Bae Sung-jae. Since Bae Sung-jae has a flat face, I think Nam can compete.”
