The crime action movie ‘The Roundup 5’ (directed by Heo Myung-haeng and produced by Big Punch Pictures, Hong Film, and BA Entertainment) officially began filming on the 24th.
The heart of ‘The Roundup’ series, Ma Dong-seok, returns as the irreplaceable monster cop Ma Seok-do. Participating in both the screenplay and production, he continues to lead the series. Now promoted to team leader of the Violent Crime Investigation Unit, Ma Seok-do remains on the front lines with his unwavering determination to catch the bad guys. He is set to engage in extreme battles against increasingly evolved crimes.
Kim Jae-young has been cast as the fifth-generation villain, Lee Kang-tae. After delivering intense performances in ‘Idol Eye’ and ‘The Judge from Hell’, Kim Jae-young transforms into Lee Kang-tae, who commits the worst of crimes. Fans can look forward to seeing a new side of Kim Jae-young through this character who stops at nothing to achieve his goals.
Other new additions to the cast bring fresh energy to the series. First, the versatile and trusted actor Seo Hyun-woo takes on the role of detective Go Young-min of the Violent Crime Investigation Unit’s Team 1. He will lead the team alongside Ma Seok-do as a reliable pillar of support. Meanwhile, Lee Hak-joo, known for his wide acting spectrum and solid filmography, appears as Han Sang-gu, an accomplice to Lee Kang-tae, adding tension to the plot.
Joining them is multi-tainer Baek Hyun-jin, who excels in acting, music, variety, and art, as the unit chief Kim Min-chul. Additionally, Kim Min-ho, who showed excellent comedic timing in the ‘New Recruit’ series and ‘6/45’, joins as Bul-dak, completing a diverse casting lineup.
Director Heo Myung-haeng, who was responsible for the series’ martial arts and directed the fourth installment, returns to showcase his signature intense action once again.
Having set an unprecedented record as the first Korean film series to achieve triple 10 million admissions and surpass 40 million cumulative viewers, ‘The Roundup’ series will maintain its tradition in ‘The Roundup 5’ while bringing viewers an even more evolved story and excitement. After thorough preparation, ‘The Roundup 5’ officially cranked in on the 24th to begin full-scale filming.
‘The Roundup 5’ is a film depicting the crime-busting operation of monster cop Ma Seok-do as he faces Lee Kang-tae, who begins the worst crime after an 8-year wait.
