Director Maggie Kang, who won an Academy Award for the Netflix film ‘K-Pop: Demon Hunters’, has made an appearance on the ‘Psick Show’!

Appearing on the popular talk show ‘Psick Show’ from the YouTube channel ‘Psick University’ on May 3, Director Maggie Kang showcased her unexpected wit and charm.

During the episode, she shared unfiltered behind-the-scenes stories from the Oscars. She revealed that she didn’t expect the win until the very last moment and spoke about the emotion of capping off a season with such an honor. She also playfully recounted her experiences at the Netflix and Vanity Fair parties, as well as a funny encounter with Leonardo DiCaprio.

When asked about her next project, ‘K-Pop: Demon Hunters 2’, Director Maggie Kang raised expectations with a witty spoiler, stating, “Season 2 will be a musical movie, just like the first one.”

Her deep identity and love as a Korean-American director also shone through. Recalling her childhood, she shared how she studied Hangeul through daily dictation even after immigrating to Canada at age five, impressing everyone with her impressive Korean language skills. She also expressed her special affection for Korea, sharing that she was born in a hospital in Myeongdong and was a fan of H.O.T. and Seo Taiji and Boys.

As a creator who endured a long seven-year production period, she shared her philosophy. “The process of making the movie was very grueling, but I gained great confidence by realizing the exact result I wanted,” she said, emphasizing that her secret to overcoming hardship is “always keeping the question ‘Why do I want to make this movie?’ engraved in my mind.”

At the end of the video, she watched a music video created by the Psick University members and reacted with genuine laughter, saying it was “so funny that no feedback is even necessary,” warming up the atmosphere with her down-to-earth personality.

Meanwhile, Director Maggie Kang recently signed an exclusive contract with The Present Company, the agency of actor Ahn Hyo-seop, signaling the start of her official activities based in Korea.
