Hugh Jackman made his Met Gala debut with a new lover, leaving his ex-wife feeling like “a knife was plunged into her heart.”
Hollywood sources, including Rob Shutter’s Substack and New Idea, shared the behind-the-scenes drama of the event. While Deborah had been told in advance that Jackman would appear with a new partner, she reportedly felt “like a knife in the heart” because the Met Gala was the couple’s favorite annual event. The pair last walked the red carpet together in 2023 before announcing their separation in September of that year.
A source mentioned, “They had agreed to attend the Met Gala on alternating years after the divorce, but that was before Sutton’s existence.” Deborah also expressed sadness that “Hugh is overwriting our precious memories with a new woman.”
Jackman and Foster, a pairing of ‘The Greatest Showman’ star and a Broadway musical star, first met as co-stars in the 2022 Broadway musical ‘The Music Man.’ Although both strongly denied rumors of an extramarital affair at the time, they officially revealed their relationship to the world at this Met Gala.
Nicole Kidman, who served as a co-chair for the event, reportedly completely avoided Jackman and Foster. A source stated, “Nicole is firmly on Deborah’s side,” adding that she believes Deborah was deeply hurt by the situation and has no intention of pretending everything is fine just because Hugh showed up with a new woman. Another source added, “Nicole didn’t want drama, but she didn’t want to act happy in front of the cameras either.” Hollywood is still buzzing about Deborah’s “deep sense of betrayal,” and many of Jackman’s close acquaintances are reportedly siding with Deborah.
Jackman and Deborah married in 1996 and spent 27 years together as one of Hollywood’s most beloved couples, raising two adopted children. After a joint statement in September 2023 saying they decided to part ways “for their own growth,” Deborah filed for divorce in May last year, which was finalized a month later. While Deborah is reportedly “doing well and recovering from the pain,” this Met Gala appearance seems to have reopened those wounds.
One source noted, “While Jackman and Foster certainly drew attention, there was no shortage of whispering behind their backs.” In a venue filled with glamorous dresses and jewels, the most inconspicuous thing, Nicole Kidman’s cold shoulder, ended up being the biggest talking point.
