
The fever from the movie ‘The King and the Man’, which surpassed 16 million viewers, has now spread to the TV screen.
According to Nielsen Korea, the 5th episode of the TVING original ‘The Legendary Cook’ (Written by Choi Ryong / Directed by Jo Nam-hyung), released simultaneously on TVING and tvN on May 25, recorded a 7.9% rating across paid platforms nationwide (including cable, IPTV, and satellite), breaking its own record once again.
Starring Park Jihoon, ‘The Legendary Cook’ started with a 5.8% rating for episode 1 on May 11, followed by 6.2% for episode 2, 7.2% for episode 3, and 7.85% for episode 4, showing a steady upward trend. With episode 5 nearly hitting 8% and setting a new personal best, expectations are high for it to break into double digits.
Furthermore, ‘The Legendary Cook’ reached a peak of 9.7%, with an average of 8.8% and a peak of 10.8% for households in the Seoul metropolitan area, ranking first in its time slot across all channels, including terrestrial broadcasters. It also took the top spot in the 2049 target demographic for tvN.
ENA’s Monday-Tuesday drama ‘Scarecrow’ (Written by Lee Ji-hyun / Directed by Park Jun-woo), which has been in fierce competition with ‘The Legendary Cook’, has given up the top spot for the first time. Episode 11 of ‘Scarecrow’, aired on May 25, recorded a 7.4% rating among paid households, a 0.5%P drop from the 7.9% recorded in episode 10. This leaves it just 0.5%P behind ‘The Legendary Cook’.
‘Scarecrow’, starring Park Hae-soo and Lee Hee-joon, started with a 2.9% rating on April 20 and climbed through word-of-mouth, surprising viewers by hitting the 7% range for the first time in episode 6. Its personal best rating was 7.9% in episode 10.
All eyes are now on whether ‘Scarecrow’ can break its own record just one day before its finale.
