Movie poster design mogul Park Si-young shared his honest thoughts and current status, offering a cool yet firm perspective on the public’s gaze.
On the 11th, Park Si-young posted on his SNS, sharing his candid feelings regarding his identity and professional expertise.
Park drew a clear line, stating, “The reason I’m good at design is because I worked hard. It’s not because I’m gay,” emphasizing that his competence is the result of relentless effort, unrelated to his identity. He added a sharp remark: “If the incompetence of teachers isn’t because they are men or women, then my competence has nothing to do with my identity either.”
He further shared his philosophy on life, saying, “I can’t live as a gay man 24 hours a day. It would be strange if my identity consumed my entire life.” He added, “I want to live diversely as someone’s senior, a manager, a colleague, the guy next door, an uncle, or a farmer.” This reveals his strong inner self, aiming for a multifaceted life as a human being rather than being trapped in a specific frame.
Currently spending time on a southern island, he expressed satisfaction, saying, “I’ve spent some truly wonderful time with great friends over the past few days. The weather is great, and I’m incredibly happy.” He shared his peaceful daily life, noting, “On the island where I live, more people look at the sea than at their phones, so it’s quiet regardless of this commotion.”
At the end of his post, he brought a smile to fans with a humorous request: “If you’re going to write an article, please use a pretty photo. If it’s going to be a rewritten article unrelated to the facts anyway, at least let the photo be pretty!”
Park Si-young has established a unique position in the industry, creating posters for numerous masterpieces such as ‘The Face Reader’, ‘The Wailing’, ‘The World of Us’, ‘House of Hummingbird’, ‘Catfish’, ‘Good Boy’, ‘Unknown Seoul’, and ‘The King and the Clown’.
Last month, Park posted a photo with his same-sex partner on his personal SNS, writing, “My heart has been boiling for 15 years. I feel like I’m going crazy because I love them so much.” He later deleted the post after it became a hot topic.
Then, on the 9th, he appeared on the YouTube channel ‘Watcha’. When comedian Won So-yoon asked if there was anything he wanted to brag about recently, Park opened up, saying, “I’m not sure if I should talk about this, but I bragged about my partner on Instagram a while ago.”
He explained, “I woke up on a Sunday morning, and since the dog I raised had passed away, I look at photos every morning. While doing that, photos with my partner naturally pop up, and they are so beautiful. There are times when my heart just swells like this.” He confessed, “Because they are so beautiful, I bragged about having such a partner and about my feelings. But then it appeared in the Chosun Ilbo and sports newspapers… I was quite flustered to see ‘Coming Out at Age 40’ as the headline.”
He also expressed deep affection for his partner, saying, “If you ask me what I truly want to brag about from the bottom of my heart, I want to carry my partner on my back and show them off everywhere. I want to carry them and walk right through the middle of Myeongdong.”
