Prime Minister Kim Min-seok has expressed his support for the movie ‘Ran 12.3’ (directed by Lee Myung-se).
On the 7th, Prime Minister Kim Min-seok visited the IndieSpace theater to watch ‘Ran 12.3’ alongside young people from the 2030 generation.
‘Ran 12.3’ is a cinematic documentary by Director Lee Myung-se that captures the breathtaking records of those who stood up to protect democracy against President Yoon Suk Yeol’s surprise declaration of emergency martial law on December 3, 2024. Prime Minister Kim recalled the urgency of that day and spoke about the significance of recording history.
During the stage greetings before the screening, Director Lee Myung-se introduced Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, saying, “Since Prime Minister Kim Min-seok was the one who predicted the martial law, he can practically be seen as the start of the movie.” Prime Minister Kim Min-seok remarked, “December 3rd is a day that is difficult to reconstruct through individual memories alone. Records have the power to awaken us to the past.” He also shared his thoughts on watching the film with the youth, adding, “We intend to pass a constitutional amendment to ensure that the National Assembly can no longer allow reckless martial law.”
‘Ran 12.3’ directly addresses the emergency martial law declaration on December 3 that brought daily life in South Korea to a standstill, delivering unforgettable tension and resonance to the audience. This screening allowed the youth, who will lead the future, to face those moments on screen, imprinting the powerful message of “Never Again” and posing questions that must be remembered. Consequently, the young attendees spent time reflecting on why they must remember that day and in what direction they should move to prevent such events from happening again.
‘Ran 12.3’ has signaled long-term success by surpassing its break-even point of 200,000 cumulative viewers on its 13th day of release. Even now, two weeks after its opening, it remains in the box office top 10, resonating with many viewers.
