“I’m trying to send a close hyung away” — Roy Kim explains the face he made while Choi Jung-hoon was lost in those high notes!

Singer Roy Kim has finally revealed the truth behind the incident where he seemingly “backstabbed” Jannabi’s Choi Jung-hoon.

On the May 20 episode of MBC’s ‘Radio Star’ (Ras), guests Kim Chang-wan, Jannabi’s Choi Jung-hoon, Roy Kim, and Hanroro appeared.

During the show, Choi Jung-hoon recalled a moment when his blood almost boiled while singing with Roy Kim. He mentioned the time they formed a team called ‘Bittle Bittle Beatles’ with Jung Seung-hwan and Kwon Jung-yeol on ‘The Seasons – 10CM’s Ssudam Ssudam’ to cover Noel’s ‘Proposal’.

Choi Jung-hoon recalled, “Seung-hwan and Roy Kim divided the parts. They gave the super high-note section to me. I thought I had to do my best, so I prepared hard and gave it my all during rehearsal. Roy and Seung-hwan were like, ‘Wow, hyung, you’re amazing!’ I felt so great. During the actual performance, I sang my heart out.”

However, a few days after the performance, a clip went viral. Choi Jung-hoon lamented, “While I was singing, Roy Kim’s expression was captured. He looked like he was thinking, ‘What is this guy doing? Why is he suddenly like this?’ even though he told me I was doing great. I was betrayed by the production staff!”

The footage in question was shown on screen. It captured Choi Jung-hoon completely immersed in his ad-libs while looking away, while Roy Kim, Jung Seung-hwan, and Kwon Jung-yeol looked at him and laughed. Netizens had reacted with comments like, “Was he electrocuted?” and “Why is he going this far?”

Roy Kim finally spoke up about the mysterious performance. “There is a different story to the truth,” he explained. “During rehearsal, I heard hyung’s scream for the first time. I was so surprised because he was better than I expected, so I was like, ‘What?’ The production staff thought that look was funny and asked me to act like I was seeing it for the first time during the actual broadcast. I agreed, but then people started saying, ‘Roy Kim planned this whole thing to send a close hyung away!'”

Choi Jung-hoon remained skeptical, saying, “There was definitely a scheme.” He even complained that Roy Kim left a comment on the video saying, “I thought someone was vomiting next to me,” further mocking him. Still, Choi Jung-hoon bragged, “Thanks to that, the video became a hit and reached 10 million views!”
