Shim Hye-jin Remembers the Late Lee Sun-kyun: “An Actor Who Still Remains in My Heart”

Shim Hye-jin Remembers the Late Lee Sun-kyun:

Actress Shim Hye-jin, who led ‘Cine Town’ from 1999 to 2006, named the late Lee Sun-kyun as a guest she still thinks about.

On the May 11 broadcast of SBS Power FM ‘Park Ha-sun’s Cine Town,’ Shim Hye-jin appeared as a guest for the ‘Power 30’ special, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Power FM.

During the show, Park Ha-sun asked Shim Hye-jin about how she has been doing lately.

Shim Hye-jin shared that she recently moved from her countryside life in Gapyeong to the outskirts of Seoul. “The distance was too far, and it was hard to enjoy cultural activities. So I decided to leave the countryside to communicate more with others,” she explained.

Regarding her daily routine, she simply said, “These days, I mostly do housework.” She added with a laugh, “I take walks in the park near my house. But not every day… most of the time, I’m just at home breathing,” sparking laughter.

Shim Hye-jin and Park Ha-sun then played a “unison” game to see if they shared the same feelings as ‘Cine Town’ DJs.

The first question was whether they had ever thought about quitting ‘Cine Town’ because it was too hard to wake up after filming late. Both answered “Yes” without a second of hesitation.

The next question was whether there was a guest actor who left such a deep impression that they still remember them. Again, both answered “Yes.”

After the game, Park Ha-sun elaborated on her answer. “I also thought about quitting because waking up after late filming was so hard. Whenever that happened, I pushed through by looking at your records, sunbaenim,” she told Shim Hye-jin.

Park Ha-sun added, “I asked ChatGPT, and it said you did the show for 5 years, 9 months, and 14 days. Seeing that, I thought about how hard it must have been for you.” Shim Hye-jin confessed, “My house was far back then. I don’t think I could have done it if I were in my right mind; I think I did it because I wasn’t.”

Park Ha-sun then asked about the “memorable actor guest.” Shim Hye-jin replied, “It’s someone who has passed away. A male actor, but a younger one, not sunbaenim Ahn Sung-ki,” struggling to recall the name at first.

Shim Hye-jin recalled, “He had a deep, wonderful voice and passed away recently.” Park Ha-sun then asked listeners to send in their guesses via messages.

As various opinions flooded the chat, the majority of listeners mentioned the late Lee Sun-kyun, who had appeared on ‘Cine Town’ in the past. Shim Hye-jin reminisced about the guests she met during her DJ days, noting, “Since the image we see on TV or screens isn’t always their true self, it’s hard to pick just one person, but there were many actors with overflowing personality.”
