SNSD’s Hyoyeon recently shared some behind-the-scenes stories about her collaboration stage with a boy group.
On May 1, a video titled “Welcome, first time for a BIGBANG and SNSD combination?” was uploaded to ‘Zip Daesung’.
During the episode, Daesung and Hyoyeon expressed their regret that BIGBANG and SNSD never had a collaboration stage, despite both groups being active around the same time since 2007.
Hyoyeon asked, “Honestly, did you want to do it with us?” To which Daesung replied, “I really did! I remember seeing your rehearsal for your debut on M Countdown back then. Watching it, I thought, ‘Wow, SM rehearsals are definitely worth watching,’ and I wanted to keep seeing them.” On the other hand, Hyoyeon confessed, “The BIGBANG stage I remember as the ‘coolest’ was the one inside the cage. I totally had heart eyes back then!”
Daesung also brought up the famous rooftop performance of SNSD’s ‘Genie’. As the clip played, Hyoyeon revealed, “That was a total first. I wonder how they thought of calling us to a rooftop so early.” She added, “The sound quality wasn’t great back then, so I couldn’t hear much. The helicopter noise was louder, so I just performed by instinct.”
When Daesung asked who she had collaborated with in the past, Hyoyeon answered, “I did one with 2PM.” Daesung jokingly remarked, “JYP acted as the bridge! Wonder Girls went to us, and 2PM went to you. Jinyoung hyung had a big picture.”
Hyoyeon clarified, “But we’ve actually known each other since our trainee days.” Daesung laughed, recalling his own experience: “We did the same, but we weren’t close. We had assigned partners. I wasn’t even close with my assigned partner, and if I talked to a different member, it felt like I was cheating!”
He added, “I wondered why that person was talking to my partner. But then again, I wasn’t even talking to my own partner.”
When Hyoyeon asked if he was the same age as his partner ‘Yeeun’, Daesung replied, “We were the same age, but still,” adding that “Sunye told our members to try and start a conversation.”
Hyoyeon noted, “I think it was like that for every group. We were close, but we’d just practice and then split up immediately. We didn’t even see each other afterward. The managers were basically like, ‘Don’t even try talking.’ Honestly, there was never a single ‘fluttering’ moment during promotions. I just performed like a robot and went home.”
