Sooyoung of Girls’ Generation opened up about how touched she was by her fellow members, including Yuri, who reached out to offer their support.
On the May 6 episode of tvN’s ‘You Quiz on the Block’ (You Quiz), Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Sooyoung appeared as guests. The three formed a trio called ‘Hyo-Ri-Soo’ to rival the group’s vocal unit, ‘TaeTiSeo’.
During the show, Sooyoung shared a deeply grateful moment with her members. She explained that her father serves as the chairman of an organization dedicated to preventing blindness and hosts many events for the visually impaired. While she used to volunteer alone whenever he suggested it, Yuri once approached her and said, “Your dad is doing such great work, why didn’t you tell me? You should have told me sooner!” Since then, Yuri and other members have been consistently making donations. Sooyoung confessed, “It feels like they are sharing the burden of my family’s struggles, and I’m so grateful.”
Sooyoung also revealed a personal struggle, stating, “My father has Retinitis Pigmentosa, and after battling the disease for over 15 years, he has lost almost all of his vision.”
She added, “New research on the disease has recently begun. Yuri told the others, ‘Guys, do you know Sooyoung’s dad is doing great work? Let’s all help if we can.’ It felt wonderful to have people who understand and care without me even having to say anything.”
Yuri shared a touching sentiment, saying, “I naturally felt that it was time to look after each other’s family and personal matters, not just work. I had received similar help from the members before. When I felt that support growing like a snowball and backing me up, I felt that nothing was too difficult. I still feel that way now.”
