
Prime Minister Kim Min-seok attended the “Never Again” screening of the film ‘Ran 12.3’, directed by Lee Myung-se.
‘Ran 12.3’ is a cinematic documentary by Director Lee Myung-se that captures the records of those who stood against former President Yoon Suk-yeol’s surprise emergency martial law declaration on December 3, 2024. According to the distributor NEW on the 8th, Prime Minister Kim Min-seok visited the IndieSpace theater on the 7th to watch ‘Ran 12.3’ alongside youth from the 2030 generation.
During the stage greeting before the screening, Director Lee Myung-se introduced him, saying, “Since Prime Minister Kim Min-seok was the one who foreshadowed the martial law, he can essentially be seen as the beginning of the movie.”
Prime Minister Kim Min-seok then recalled the tense situation immediately following the emergency martial law declaration. He stated, “December 3 is a day that is difficult to reconstruct through personal memory alone,” adding that “records have the power to make us awake to the past.”
He further shared his thoughts, mentioning, “We intend to pass a constitutional amendment to ensure that the National Assembly is no longer subjected to reckless martial law.”
‘Ran 12.3’ is a documentary that directly addresses the emergency martial law declaration on December 3, which brought daily life in South Korea to a standstill. It was reconstructed using a vast archive, including videos and photos provided by about 150 citizens, as well as records from National Assembly officials and the press. The film was directed by Lee Myung-se, a cineaste famous for his unique mise-en-scène in films like ‘Duelist’, ‘M’, and ‘Untouchable’. Music director Cho Sung-woo, who worked on ‘Forbidden Dream’, ‘The Last Princess’, ‘Untouchable’, and ‘Christmas in August’, also participated.
