Actor Song Ji-in has opened up about her thoughts on the conclusion of ‘Doctor Shin’.

Song Ji-in delivered a powerful performance as Hyun Ran-hee, the mother of Momo (played by Baek Seo-ra), in the TV CHOSUN weekend mini-series ‘Doctor Shin’ (written by Phoebe [Lim Sung-han], directed by Lee Seung-hoon, produced by TME Group and Scene & Studio).

Hyun Ran-hee is a character who doesn’t hesitate to use calculated moves to get what she wants. She especially shocked viewers by provoking Momo’s fiancé, Shin Ju-shin (played by Jung Yi-chan), after a brain change surgery. As a member of the “Lim Sung-han squad,” Song Ji-in earned high praise for bringing Hyun Ran-hee’s desires to life with her heavy-hitting acting, despite her short appearance.

During an interview with Newsen on May 6 at the HB Entertainment office in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Song Ji-in shared, “It was even more meaningful to work with writer Lim Sung-han once again. Although I left the show halfway through, I felt like I was running with it until the final episode, which was quite touching. I’m so grateful to everyone who showed interest.”

She continued, “When I first received the script, I was like, ‘What is this?’ and ‘Would they really do this?’ Some might call it ‘makjang,’ but don’t all sorts of stories exist in the world? I was surprised and respectful of how the writer, who has been active for so long, constantly searches for new materials.” She added, “Looking at the script, I wondered, ‘Can I do this?’ Since it was my first time playing a mother with an adult daughter, I thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be fun to try?'”

Regarding writer Lim Sung-han, she revealed, “I was grateful she called me again. The writer really cares for the actors. There are rumors that she’s scary, but did you see Eom Eun-hyang’s YouTube live? Many people said the writer is sweeter than expected, and she truly cares for everyone, including the rookies. It feels great to work with her.”

She added, “Of course, if we act differently from what was intended, she gives us a lot of guidance and sometimes scolds us, but from an actor’s perspective, she is very considerate. It was a great experience.”

‘Doctor Shin’ wrapped up its run on the 3rd with its 16th episode. The finale left viewers in shock as Shin Ju-shin ended up in the body of a large Golden Retriever.

Reacting to this, Song Ji-in confessed, “After watching the final episode, I thought, ‘How am I going to do this interview?’ and ‘I should have done the interview before the finale.’ I figured people would ask me about it, and I wasn’t sure how to answer. Since I watched it entirely from a viewer’s perspective after leaving the show, I felt the writer made a choice that no one else could have made.”

She further explained, “I don’t think Ju-shin and the Golden Retriever did a brain change. I think the unconditional support and love Ju-shin gave to Bara simply remained as a deep feeling of gratitude.”
