The cute triplets we loved on ‘The Return of Superman’ have grown up fast, and now they’ve entered the “storm and stress” phase of 8th grade, leaving their home feeling like it’s walking on thin ice.
Actor Song Il-gook shared the surprising latest updates on the triplets during MBN’s ‘Kim Ju-ha’s Day & Night’.
Song Il-gook, who is taking on a bold new challenge in the musical ‘The Hague’, appeared in the 26th episode of ‘Kim Ju-ha’s Day & Night’ (airing Saturday the 23rd at 9:40 PM). He confessed that the triplets, who once made the whole nation their “online aunts and uncles,” are now in the middle of a turbulent puberty.
“It’s not just one or two, but all three are in 8th grade, so the house is like walking on thin ice… They don’t like it when people talk about them on TV,” Song Il-gook shared cautiously. However, he sparked laughter by revealing his desperate plea to the boys: “Dad needs to make a living too. If I don’t talk about you, they won’t invite me.”
Song Il-gook also grabbed attention by revealing recent photos approved by the triplets. Inheriting the tall DNA of their parents, the boys have shot up: Daehan is 186cm, Minguk is 183cm, and Manse is 180cm. With Daehan already surpassing Song Il-gook’s height of 185cm, fans are curious to see how much more they will grow.

While chatting with Moon Se-yoon, who also has a child in puberty, Song Il-gook joked, “The kids I knew are gone, and strangers have arrived,” expressing deep empathy over the children’s refusal of skinship. He lamented, “I’m someone who used to give them a thousand kisses a day,” but teased, “One of them still accepts it… when they’re in a good mood,” leaving viewers curious about who the lucky child is.
Song Il-gook also shared that the triplets’ names actually came from an exclamation by his mother, Kim Eul-dong. Upon hearing that she was expecting triplets, Kim Eul-dong shouted, “Daehan Minguk Manse!” (Long live the Republic of Korea!), which became their prenatal names and eventually their real names. Interestingly, his wife was against the names until the end.
Previously, Song Il-gook mentioned the turbulent times of Daehan, Minguk, and Manse on KBS1’s ‘AM Plaza’.
He confessed, “They are in 8th grade now. That scary 8th grade. You never know where they’ll jump.” He shared an anecdote: “Yesterday, while I was looking at a script, someone came up to me and said, ‘Father, what are you doing? Don’t talk about me.’ I can’t say which of the three it was. If I do, it’ll be chaos. It’ll be a big deal if this airs. Can they not watch the show at school? It was Minguk. He’s very sensitive.”
He added, “All three are sensitive, but Minguk is especially so. That’s why when I want to post a photo, I wait until he seems to be in a good mood and ask, ‘Can I post this?’ and then he says, ‘Yes, yes.’ I have to get permission. The kids I knew have disappeared, and strangers have come.”
